Judas knew the garden (called Gethsemane) since Jesus had often met his disciples there. Judas brought the Roman soldiers and Temple guards all carrying lanterns and torches and weapons.

Their swords are loosed, and blood is shed, then we hear Jesus say:
What crime have I committed that you come for me this way?

I taught among you openly; and secrets I had none.
In temple I taught that the kingdom comes for every one.
Now comes the hour that darkness reigns!= The mob then had their way.
So Peter, James, and John, and all the others ran away.
