On their way out, they came across a man, Simon of Cyrene, and made him shoulder the cross.

They enlisted a passer-by, Simon of Cyrene, father of Alexander and Rufus, who was coming in from the country, to carry his cross.

And as they were leading him away

						This notice was read by many of the Jews, because Jesus was crucified near the city, and the writing was in Hebrew, Latin and Greek. So the chief priests said to Pilate, ‘You should not write AKing of the Jews,@ but the man said, AI am King of the Jews.@= Pilate answered, ‘What I have written, I have written.’

And they crucified two criminals with him, one on his right and one on his left.

Now they were also leading out two others, criminals, to be executed with him. They reached the place called The Skull, where they crucified two criminals with him, one on his right and one on his left.

and one of them quickly ran to get a sponge which he filled with vinegar and, putting it on a reed, gave it to him to drink. But the rest of them said, ‘Wait! And see if Elijah will come to save him.’		Someone ran and soaked a sponge in vinegar and, putting it on a reed, gave it to him to drink saying, ‘Wait! And see if Elijah will come to save him.’				A jar full of vinegar stood there; so, putting a sponge soaked in wine on a hyssop stick, they held it up to his mouth.

But Jesus, again crying out in a loud voice,

yielded up his spirit.
